Jeannie Leu's interest in the body and how
it functions was first sparked in 1978, when she was 12 and began to
study dance and yoga. Her study of dance and yoga continues to this day, and
has included in-depth training in Congolese, Afro-Haitain, West
African, ballet, modern and jazz dance, as well as Astanga and Iyengar
yoga.
Jeannie earned a B.A. in Dance at San Francisco State University in 1990, where her studies included anatomy, kinesiology (the science of human movement) and optimal performance in athletes.
In 1992, Jeannie became a Certified Massage Therapist. After her certification, she undertook five years of advanced training in deep tissue, lymphatic and neuromuscular massage and bodywork, the last three apprenticing with Kim Santa, M.A. An extraordinary bodyworker himself, Kim was a student of Lauren Berry, a pioneer in the field of manual medicine and regarded as one of the great bodyworkers of his time.
In 2000, Jeannie received her certification as a personal trainer.
She currently specializes in helping people with chronic health issues
and in helping people return to normal functioning after injuries. Jeannie also provides therapeutic strength and flexibility training for non-athletes.
In 2005, Jeannie began studying Iyengar Yoga intensively. Her primary teacher is Joe Naudzunas. Since 2006 Jeannie has been integrating principles from Yoga in her restorative massage and personal training practice.
